High School Scholarships
Merl and Peggy Williams ScholarshipRedlands High School In the mid 1980's Footlighters looked into the possibility of giving a scholarship to a graduating high school senior who had been active in the theater during his/her high school years, and planned to continue such activity beyond high school. When the organization could not provide the capital for such a scholarship, Peggy Williams donated the money to make the award possible. She and her husband, Merl, were long time members of Footlighters. Merl was the founder of "Marketeer", a local electric cart manufacturing company. Merl served as President of Footlighters for many years and was involved in the purchase of the property where the present theater facility stands. Merl passed away shortly after the present theater was built, in 1980-81, and Peggy died in the late 1980s. |
Joe Camp ScholarshipRedlands East Valley High School At the time the Merl and Peggy Williams Scholarship was initiated, Redlands had only one high school. The Williams scholarship continues to be awarded to a Redlands High School graduating senior. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Joe Camp, a long time member of Footlighters, and a former employee of "Marketeer", a second scholarship was established, for Redlands East Valley High School. The Joe Camp Scholarship Fund was established in 1997, but awarding the first scholarship had to wait until 1999, when the first class graduated from the East Valley High School. |
