Our 2002/2003 Season

The Taming of the Shrew

by William Shakespeare

Directed by Steven Sabel

This classic tale of the battle between the sexes is also about power and identity, love and courtship, and a comic chain reaction of rivalries and mistaken identities that culminate in a romantically happy ending. Petruchio woos Katherina, the perfect wife in every respect but one - she is an intolerable shrew. He subjects her to a series of indignities under the pretext of kindness. In contrast is the elaborate wooing of Kate's demure sister Bianca. The play chronicles the lively antics and exploits of both Kate's "taming" and the sisters' respective journeys to the altar.
